Niagara-on-the-Lake lives up its reputation as one of Ontario’s prettiest towns. Bordered by waterfront, it’s ideal for exploring on foot. Charm is abundant in this quaint heritage town. Impressive 19th century design, flower-filled streets and horse-drawn carriages add to the ambience of a bygone era. Spend your leisure time meandering antique shops and whimsical boutiques or enjoy the town’s delightful bistros.
Table Rock is the main hub of Canada’s natural wonder. Situated on the brink of the Falls, the welcome center is a terrific observation complex with outstanding views of the thundering water. It’s the go-to site for fabulous souvenir shopping and is home to Table Rock House, a restaurant venue boasting floor to ceiling windows. Table Rock is a premier photo stop on our tour. While here our guide will gladly give tips on the perfect spots to capture close proximity shots of the extraordinary Falls.
These frothing rapids really put on a dramatic display. One of the world’s most astonishing natural phenomena, the Niagara Whirlpool is formed by the force of massive water rushing over the Falls. Vast amounts of water, suddenly trapped in the narrow Niagara Gorge, begin to turn counterclockwise. An abrupt change in river direction is what creates such remarkable rapids. Truly enthralling!
Nestled high atop Niagara Escarpment, Queenston Heights is a heritage park beloved for generations. As a Canadian national heritage site, the park features a large monument in tribute to Sir Isaac Brock, ‘Savior of Upper Canada’ who fought in the 1812 Battle of Queenston Heights. Take pleasure in the exquisite gardens and fantastic views of the Niagara River as it winds its way to Lake Ontario.
Niagara Falls Clock
The Niagara Floral Clock was originally launched by Ontario Hydro in 1950 which continues to operate the clock mechanism in timely fashion. Known for great gardening flair, Niagara Parks horticulture staff maintain the clock’s floral face. Over 16,000 colorful annuals and carpet plants are used in the design. The unique clock – the largest of its kind – also boasts a lovely water garden. Adding to the charm, visitors are greeted each quarter hour by Westminster chimes housed in a tower behind the clock.
Travelling the Niagara Parkway is always an alluring ride. The popular scenic route is filled with enchanting river views and a countryside sprinkled with vineyards. As we head to Niagara-on-the-Lake to enjoy leisure time, our photo stops include the Niagara Floral Clock, the Hydro Dam, Queenston Heights, and the Whirlpool Rapids.
Queen's Royal Park
There’s a bit of Hollywood to be found at Queen’s Royal Park. On a quiet pocket on the edge of Niagara-on-the-Lake, you’ll find a gazebo that was originally created as a prop for The Dead Zone movie. The gazebo has since become a popular romantic setting for proposals and wedding ceremonies. Close to the town center, the park offers wonderful lake views with walkways, tree cover and picnic tables.
